The School of Athens

The School of Athens  Raphael’s Fresco:    This masterpiece stands as one of the central pieces of the renaissance era. Painted during the period of 1509 - 1511, Raphael has portrayed the entire Athenian philosophical wisdom in this fresco. The artwork oozes and radiates with classical art and knowledge, the faces ranging from Democritus to Aristotle, the colours symbolizing the Athenian philosophy of five elements theory - that all earthly things are composed of fire, earth, air, water, and aether.   Today, this piece resides on the warm walls of the Apostolic Palace, in the Vatican City.  The Actual School:    Bound with the universal fabric of reality, philosophy, science and art, Raphael’s Fresco portrays nearly every great Greek philosopher that was born. The list of all these storming figures can be found at this wiki link -  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_School_of_Athens  However, our discussion will only be limited to ...

The Alchemist- Book Review

It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.                                      The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho     I preface my review by saying I am amazed how wildly passionate people are in their feelings toward this novel of whether they love or hate The Alchemist. I’m one of those people who love it. But, I understand why people are so passionate in their dislike of this work. Paul Coelho looks to inspire passion in people with The Alchemist. And he succeeds in doing so especially in those who are so passionate in their dislike of this book.   The Alchemist is a novel that combines an atmosphere of medieval mysticism with the voice of the desert -- dreams, symbols, signs, and adventure follow Santiago and the reader like echoes of ancient wise voices. With this symbolic novel Coelho states that we should not avoid our destinies, and u...

Habits : A Poem

Habits Without leaving any scars  Any traces of your malice You go your way I want to clamor But my voice is lost You took my words with you And a piece of myself too Infamy can't change it Truths are often feign Loving you was an old habit And old habits die hard Holidays remind me of you Blazing is what you made me feel One more spark would aflame me Just like your faded picture That's what our love was,  Anemic and antique.  Now I have a habit Nascent and strange I have an entity  One you never wanted me to have An unconfined soul It can't be seized by your malignity  For love is not what we had Just an atrophy of time Love is what I have now A possession dazzling and dainty Cheerfulness and a warm sunset Not a feeling of downfall Just utter acceptance Bliss that never gets old Habits might be old or new Time is just a rule Old habits have to die To make room for those anew This is the fin my old friend A closure it may seem End of the line for my old ...

David is a good man

David is a good man He pays his takes one day before the due date, Never surpasses the red traffic light, Always gives candy to little children he sees crying. He is punctual at his job and all his colleagues know him for completing his tasks efficiently.   When he goes to pay the taxes, he makes sure to put the accountant at the bank to sleep with his knife before he gently withdraws a fair sum of money from the ATM and then puts a pile of cash on the front desk. He does pay though, just withdraws more than he gives.   He always waits when the red-light blinks above; He gets out of his cheap car to put the owner of the expensive car beside him to sleep, after which he carefully puts the body away. Then when the light is green and only when the light is green, he obediently  drives his new car further down the road.   It hurts him to see children cry, so when he offers them his candy, he makes sure that the sugary coating on it will put the child in a deep sleep with...

New Horizons

Planet certiorari Station 3459 E-14 entered the station, her shoulders drooped and sweat covering her temple. She slugged to the bar. Her eyebrows were slightly creased and her face contorted in a frown. She was tired of this. The star was going to explode any time now. Four years ago, when she became Galactic Soldier, she vowed to protect her planet, Raenyara, her people. Back then, their task was to find another planet for the people. The radiation hit the Raenyara much before they anticipated, and as expected, the chaos unsure. Few people survived, and she was amongst them. Her people were now refugees. With alliances falling apart, no other planet wanted to take a risk by offering shelter to them. And those who did refuse to abide by the galactic law, treating the refugees worse than servants. The poor people had to accept it, otherwise, the would-be dead. The rich didn't escape from that fate. Slowly, their reserve of the currency came to an abrupt end. Only ultra-rich were ...

The Pair of Benettons

The world is a different place, where fear still subsides the human race. ~Sabyasachi Firstly , let's not dive in a sea of pessimism yet . Regardless I hope everyone remembers the depth of the quote. If someone had asked me  about fashion  in primary school , I would have simply showed off my uniform and  polished shoes thinking that my actions are self explanatory enough. In highschool even though you get a sneak peek of Cosmopolitan and Femina you are still expected to follow the rather unfathomable fashionable protocols. These are the days  when canvas shoes turn black with all the dirt and the black shoes are white  owing to the chalk fights. Throughout our entire school life I guess there is only one occasion in the form of Farewell where everybody unleashes their inner 'divas and devas' . I distinctly remember this day not because of the copious amounts of glitter silk and chiffon or the blaze-ing waves of heat but simply because of the callously craf...

A tale of spirituality

December 31 st  2020, After more than 24 hours of train journey, we had landed ourselves in the city of Somnath in the State of Gujarat. It was my first trip with my father while being accompanied with a bunch of complete strangers, who had become great friends in just the span of a day. We were tight on schedule and hence, we had to fresh up real quick. The plan was to visit the famous Shiva Temple in Somnath, and then we had to get going to Jun a g d h post dinner. We hurried ourselves out of the hotel, with our mobile phones and our backpacks in the hotel itself, because the premises prohibited entry while carrying a mobile phone. As we walked along, getting close to the temple, we witnessed something stupendous. The temple is situated along the coastline and the wide horizon of the Arabian Sea left all of us mesmerized. It was moments before sunset, and a perfect time to be there, and to click wonderful pictures. I was cursing myself for not carrying my phone with me. I ...
