The Pair of Benettons

The world is a different place, where fear still subsides the human race.

~Sabyasachi

Firstly , let's not dive in a sea of pessimism yet . Regardless I hope everyone remembers the depth of the quote. If someone had asked me  about fashion  in primary school , I would have simply showed off my uniform and  polished shoes thinking that my actions are self explanatory enough. In highschool even though you get a sneak peek of Cosmopolitan and Femina you are still expected to follow the rather unfathomable fashionable protocols. These are the days  when canvas shoes turn black with all the dirt and the black shoes are white  owing to the chalk fights. Throughout our entire school life I guess there is only one occasion in the form of Farewell where everybody unleashes their inner 'divas and devas' . I distinctly remember this day not because of the copious amounts of glitter silk and chiffon or the blaze-ing waves of heat but simply because of the callously crafted formal shoes which seemed far more interested in stinging my toes over maintaining a steady equilibrium.

Till this day I often ask myself the question....Why?

Humans are probably the smartest and the most creative inhabitants of planet Earth. Perhaps so creative that a person wearing a  Dolce and Gabbana jacket makes it a point to spit and show off his red graffitis amidst Covid times. We provide comfortable clothing to our pets but when it comes to our own sorry selves we prefer to drape in suffocating fabrics  because we think that society will think of us as a pariah or a patient of wadrobe malfunctioning syndrome unless we follow  the rules of choking and layering. Thus this is the time to face the reality . We are not  models walking out of Vogue and Men's Health to copy their styles and make a mountain of a mole hill. Next time you shop rather than forcefully extracting the answer to the question " Is it stretchable?" Or "Does it shrink?Get yourself the +1 or -1 size .

Oh! And about the UCBs ....

I was a victim of the July in January climate crisis in Pune . While navigating and paddling through the road in what seemed like a kilometre long traffic jam , I was actually wondering about which shoes I would like to buy. I saw a young couple on the footpath where a Zara dressed leather boots girl was loudly complaining with a Starbucks takeout. The boy on the other hand was casually dressed in chinos and a dark blue shirt with white Benetton sneakers clearly pissed at the lady. The girl threw her cup in the passing stream and demanded his attention . Somehow his eyes followed the bobbing path which finally lead to stagnant point. With a eureka look he poked and prodded the area with a long plant stick . Many people followed his suit and soon enough the area transformed from a small pool to a wetland as the drains vacuumed the water. In the entire process the girl had left and his white sneakers would have preferred a ceremonial end over a muddy murder but there was a look of accomplishment on his face and that was priceless.

This incident humbled me in terms of fashion. It doesn't matter what brands you dress in , carrying yourself as a simple-chic goddess or a kind, chivalrous gentlemen is far more precious. Finally, about the self appointed fashion experts -we know what happens to a nation  who pokes it's nose in the business of other sovereignties. Henceforth have an open mind , every person is unique and smart enough to find themselves a decent outfit. Don't overthink while putting it or be the judgemental spectator. Concluding I would quote that fashion is like democracy it's of the people , by the people and for the people. If you don't like it , vote it out . If someone else is making the decision for you right now try to be content for your own sake because the day when you get to make a comfortable choice is not far away .

As for the shoes I ended up with a pair of UCBs myself , we make our clothes worthy and not vice versa.

New Horizons

Planet certiorari Station 3459 E-14 entered the station, her shoulders drooped and sweat covering her temple. She slugged to the bar. Her eyebrows were slightly creased and her face contorted in a frown. She was tired of this. The star was going to explode any time now. Four years ago, when she became Galactic Soldier, she vowed to protect her planet, Raenyara, her people. Back then, their task was to find another planet for the people. The radiation hit the Raenyara much before they anticipated, and as expected, the chaos unsure. Few people survived, and she was amongst them. Her people were now refugees. With alliances falling apart, no other planet wanted to take a risk by offering shelter to them. And those who did refuse to abide by the galactic law, treating the refugees worse than servants. The poor people had to accept it, otherwise, the would-be dead. The rich didn't escape from that fate. Slowly, their reserve of the currency came to an abrupt end. Only ultra-rich were ...

Are Apples Really Red?

Colour: Are Apples Really Red?   A simple way to answer this question would be to say that, “ Apples are red because I see them red.” But wouldn’t that be a really naïve way to answer such a profound question as that, not likely to quench any educated human’s curiosity. Hence, our little aim will be to stride progressively in the direction of undermining our incomplete foundation of colour theory and rebuild it with a tinge of universal wisdom.   To begin with we really need understand the question – “ What is Red? “. A layman’s definition of the colour red would be – “ Red is the colour of an Apple “ and why shouldn’t it be. Right from the early sweet days of our kindergarten years we have been hammered by this impeccable statement to the point that we never really think of red’s independent existence or eternal origin. However the Oxford dictionary defines red as “A colour at the end of the spectrum next to orange and opposite violet..”.  Let’s stick to this def...

The Alchemist- Book Review

It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.                                      The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho     I preface my review by saying I am amazed how wildly passionate people are in their feelings toward this novel of whether they love or hate The Alchemist. I’m one of those people who love it. But, I understand why people are so passionate in their dislike of this work. Paul Coelho looks to inspire passion in people with The Alchemist. And he succeeds in doing so especially in those who are so passionate in their dislike of this book.   The Alchemist is a novel that combines an atmosphere of medieval mysticism with the voice of the desert -- dreams, symbols, signs, and adventure follow Santiago and the reader like echoes of ancient wise voices. With this symbolic novel Coelho states that we should not avoid our destinies, and u...
